The Blueberry Smoothie is one of my signature smoothie recipes; yet, it is so simple!
Blueberries and almond butter is one of my favorite combos. While the recipe uses almond butter, it barely contains any fat! How? I use the PB&Me Powdered Almond Butter – No Sugar Added. That must have been one of my biggest food discoveries yet. It is similar to almond butter but with 90-percent less calories from fat! 2 tbsp of powdered almond butter contains 50 calories, 3% of fat and 5g of protein. If you look at their reviews on Amazon, you’ll notice that the product has bad reviews overall (3.1 out 5). I really don’t understand why. Maybe people are trying to use it as an almond butter for their toast. In smoothies, it does an amazing job! I’ve had a couple of people try my Blueberry Smoothie and they all loved it!
To get a super smooth smoothie, I use the Vitamix S30 Personal Blender. Seriously, you could never get a texture like this with most blenders! Also, other blenders usually require more liquid to function. Unfortunately, Vitamix doesn’t sell this model anymore, which was their cheapest one (less than CDN $250) ;( If your budget allows it, you can always look at their other models (new ones start at CDN $450). Otherwise, although I have never tested it myself, the Ninja BL481C Nutri-Ninja Auto-iQ Blender appears to be an affordable alternative.
A saving tip: I like to buy my blueberries fresh when on sale at the grocery (at the price of $2-$2.50 a box) and freeze them in zipper lock bags. It is cheaper than buying already frozen blueberries.
